Product Liability Insurance

Premiums from £500.00

A product is defined as any item that is sold or given away. All products, even free products, must be "fit for purpose".

Under the Consumer Protection Act 1987 you are legally responsible for any damage or injury sustained from a product that you supply.

If you supply a product and something goes wrong with it and damage or injury occurs then a claim would occur, even if you are not manufacturer of the product. A claim could arise from anyone you sold the product to and can be affected by how and where it is used and any warnings or labels that are provided.

Product liability covers you in the event of a claim for compensation as a result of damage or injury caused by your product. The cover protects you against unforeseen circumstances however, if you make an inferior product, then you may not be covered and of the fault is a result of bad workmanship then this will not be covered either.

Most businesses have cover of between half a million and £5 million with average being £2 million.
